COMPUTER HARDWARE

Random Access Memory (RAM)

RAM is a very fast type of computer storage which temporarily stores data needed by the computer now and in the near future. It is a computer's short term memory, as it is much faster than an HDD or SSD.

Central Processing Unit (CPU)

The CPU is the most important component of any computing device. It interprets and executes the commands from the computer's other hardware and software, allocating certain tasks to other specific chips.

Graphics Processing Unit (GPU)

A GPU is a specialized chip in a computer primarily used to render images, video, and animations for display. By doing so, it frees up the CPU to do other things.

Power Supply Unit (PSU)

The PSU is the hardware that converts power from the outlet into power that other computer components can use. The PSU also has various built-in electrical and temperature protection systems.

Solid State Drive (SSD)

SSDs are a type of data storage device. Data is stored on memory chips. As a result, it is faster and more reliable than an HDD, which relies on physical means of data storage.

Hard Disk Drive (HDD)

HDDs are a type of data storage device. Data is stored on rapidly rotating platters and accessed via a magnetic read/write head. Due to the mechanical nature of HDDs, they are slower and less reliable than SSDs.

WHY ARE COMPUTERS IMPORTANT?

In today's world, technology plays a major role in nearly every sector of society. One such important device is the computer. Computers, ranging from handheld smartphones to warehouse-wide supercomputers, have become an essential part of our lives.

COMPUTER LITERACY

Due to the growing ubiquity of technology, including computers, literacy in both computer hardware and software is highly valued. Employees that are skilled in computer hardware and software are highly valued by employers. Computer literacy can also help you get the most out of your own computer, whether you're just using it, troubleshooting it, or buying a new one.

NUMEROUS COMPANIES CONSIDER COMPUTER LITERACY A VALUABLE SKILL, SUCH AS:
